Creative Highlights Journey

I have been long attached to my creative side of the brain and with much resistance I have recently been away from that part of my brain. This is due to a heavy Millennial type work load so I have been distant from this long time friend. The path back to my creative side is a fun one which I have unfortunately just plain left it in the dust for the past four months. Activity such as this can be regular for people who dip their feet in many industries or skills in a particular industry like the Technology sector. With media these days being more pliable to common folk, if they got time and the reason, then we tend to play the parts of Director, Producer, Writer, Cinematographer, Editor, and etc. This can be what takes us away from our favorite part of the new process and the self publish industry that has evolved so far. Leaving this behind though can be good thing right, taking a step back to postpone the problem till later when we have a fresh outlook on possible solutions. This is also can be what triggers new direction in your art whether visual, literary, of philosophical.

So I grabbed my pen and my Moleskine and started to once again to draw and form shapes for a possible new logo for a project I am working on. It felt good to once again tap into that part of my mind that forms 3D images in their entirety without taking a Photoshop tutorial. Even though I have been busy moving from item to item during these last few months I did take time to practice my Photoshop skills learning more from home grown tutorial sites and one of my favorite teachers Bert Monroy of Revision3’s PixelPerfect series. All the projects I made in those many tutorials have been steadily improving my ability to make total custom works of graphic art. After deciding to do some preliminary work bringing my paper drawings into the digital realm I found that my digital skills had definitely grown. This project only took a little over an hour to bring to life. Apparently I have gathered enough skill to produce what I had seen in my mind which is step for any person who calls himself an artist. With that said as a practicing perfectionist it will never be as perfect as it is seen in my mind so we must relinquish certain feelings we have towards our work and continue to discover where we might stop ourselves with great appreciation for what we have done.

All this rediscovery of the process of my creativity reminded of something that triggered its formation years ago. Remember that magazine Highlights and its pages of kid targeted puzzles and creative projects. One of things I loved about the magazine and I couldn’t wait till each issue arrived in the mail was the Hidden pictures page. The full page black and white line art graphic contained around thirteen small random objects that would be hidden in the larger image. It was one of the funnest parts to figure out where each of the items were integrated into the image well if you wanna re live that experience its now on the web like many childhood things these days.
